Cincy Pride print, drawing progress

I really loved the sign on the side of the Convention Center, the one that abstracts the word “CINCINNATI” using angled panels that catch projected light.

As part of the 2025 renovation they will be replacing this sign.

I wanted to capture a moment in history, an era where we made a little progress in equality by depicting the view of this sign during Pride Month.

During Pride Month, I scouted the location and shot reference photography. I used Photoshop to compile reference photographs that captured the essence of the experience from this vantage point.

During a vacation to see family in Oregon, bring on East Coast time, I would wake up early and go to a coffee shop, using ProCreate to convert to the reference photography into a line drawing — I exaggerated the angles a little more with forced perspective.

I plan to use this drawing as a guide to make a black and white drawing to transfer to a woodblock for this year’s BIG INK at the American Sign Museum.
